Enrolment application
The PhD programmes last three years. The activities start on 1 November and finish on 31 October. Remember that registration to the PhD is incompatible with the simultaneous enrolment in other university courses be it I, II or III level (for example: PhD, degree courses, specialisation courses, specialist colleges, Master’s Programmes).
Upon registration, the candidate who is enrolled in one of these courses, must, within fifteen days, regularise their position for enrolment under penalty of forfeiture. Joint attendance of the medical specialisation course and the PhD course is allowed in accordance with Art. 19, paragraph 1, letter c) of Italian Act No. 240 of 30.12.2010. In case of joint attendance, the duration of the course is reduced to a minimum of two years. This provision applies to graduates in medicine and surgery with contracts of specialised training under Italian Law Decree No. 368 of 17.08.1999, who are attending the last year.
Attendance to PhD implies a full-time commitment: if other activities outside the PhD are conducted intensively, it is provided, however, the opportunity to ask the Board of Teachers an opinion on the possible work compatibility (downloadable document below).
For the academic year 2015, the income limit, for those who receive the scholarship, has been set at € 16,000.00 gross per year, referred to the calendar year.
Moreover, as established by Italian Act 476/1984, as supplemented by Art. 52, paragraph 57 of Italian Act No. 448/2001, a public employee admitted to a PhD, who holds a position without a scholarship or who declines the scholarship itself, may ask for a leave of absence, retaining the financial compensation and pension paid by the public administration where the work relationship has been established. In any case, Italian Act No. 448/2001, Art. 52, paragraph 57 applies as interpreted by the Circulars of the Ministry of Education, University and Research No. 120/2002 and No. 15/2011. Finally, there is the possibility to interrupt the attendance to the PhD course in case of maternity and military or civilian service (both national and European, as well as, of course in case of disease).
The winners of the competition are required to submit an enrolment application to the Secretariat of the ‘G. D'Annunzio’ School of Advanced Studies within fifteen days after they receive the email as provided for in Art. 6 of the announcement of competition. Failure to regularise the enrolment within the period indicated above implies an automatic waiver to the position. Vacancies will be assigned to suitable candidates that follow on the list of applicants, upon notice to the parties concerned, exclusively via email.
The winners who are non-EU citizens must also submit a copy of their residence permit
