The Research Division acts as a contact point for the European Commission, the European Union (EU) Directorates-General and other International Bodies in relation to all submitted project proposals.European or international projects are those directly funded by the EU and other international bodies and organizations, awarded to the University as the beneficiaryThe implementation of the financed projects is the responsibility of the University structures identified in the Statute (Departments and Centres/Museum), as they are places for carrying out teaching and research activities.International projects are implemented under the following main funding programmesHORIZON EUROPE is the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation for the seven-year period 2021 - 2027, which consolidates the results and success of the previous Horizon 2020 (2014 - 2020) and intends to allow the EU to remain at the forefront of research and innovation at global level. NON-EU - USA FINANCING such as the opportunities promoted by the NIH - NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH, the primary US government agency for biomedical research. 80% of NIH funding is for research activities carried out outside the NIH Institutes. The involvement of external beneficiaries has numerically reached 3,000 units including US and foreign research institutes.Other EU direct financing programmes, in addition to Horizon Europe, other directly funded EU programmes are included in the European Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF – Multiannual Financial Framework) and support projects in numerous areas of intervention, including people's health and well-being (EU4Health, to improve response capacities to health crises and strengthen health systems); digital capabilities (Digital Europe, supporting investments in supercomputing, AI, cybersecurity and digital skills); the environment (LIFE); the strengthening of democracy and fundamental rights (Justice Programme); the protection and promotion of the rights guaranteed by the European Treaties and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (CERV - Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme); culture and the audiovisual sector (Creative Europe).International associations and Foundations that support research projects on specific topics.
